Holiday Activities at Mt. Hood Skibowl

It may not be snowing much yet, but the sun is shining and there are still lots of fun activities to do at Mt. Hood Skibowl and nearby Government Camp.

Santa Claus is coming to town!  Join us this Saturday evening December 21st  in the middle of Government Camp, right in front of the High Mt. Café, as Santa arrives on a special fire engine from the Hoodland Fire Department.  The festivities start at 6:00pm with the Sandy High School Symphonic Choir serenading the crowd as the switch is flipped and the town Christmas tree is lit up in all its splendor.  Santa will arrive around 6:30pm and be available for the youngsters to tell him what they would like for Christmas.  Donuts and hot cocoa will be on hand provided by Huckleberry Inn.  Sign up for a romantic horse drawn carriage ride through town.  Call Mt. Hood Adventure at 503-715-2175 to set up a reservation.

Need to warm up during the ceremony?  Hop into the Ratskeller building and enjoy a hot mixed drink or adult beverage from the High Mt. Café, or let the kids try their hand at Skee Ball or any other of the games in the classically equipped arcade.  Redeem the tickets you earn for great prizes!  If you forgot that essential piece of clothing like gloves or a hat, Mt. Hood Adventure is sure to have everything you need to enjoy the outdoors in the winter.   Sign up for a snowshoe tour, cross country tour or a snowmobile tour while you are there.  Visit the Mt. Hood Adventure website to see all they have to offer.

After visiting with jolly Saint Nick, head on over to the Skibowl Snow Tube and Adventure Park and experience the sensory fun of the world’s only Cosmic Tubing!  Have a blast tubing under 600,00 colored lights, laser shows and neon tubes, all while enjoying your favorite tunes on the rocking sound system.  Try the 800’ long zip lines at night, or head inside the newly remodeled Multorpor Lodge for a hot drink and the best burger on the mountain in the 70 Meter Bar & Grill.  Cosmic Tubing runs from 6:00pm to 11:00pm on Friday and Saturday nights, and almost every night through the holidays. Click here for a complete operating schedule for the Snow Tube and Adventure Park.  Afraid of the dark?  Don’t worry; tubing is available every day starting this Saturday through January 5th.   The hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm and include the two story play structure, zip lines and Frosty’s Playland for the kids.

While everyone was trying to stay warm during the recent cold snap, Skibowl was busy making tons of snow with eight state of the art snow guns, allowing us to open our tube hill and rope tows.  The legendary “Yeti Yard” rope tow park is open every day starting this Saturday, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, with longer hours after Christmas.  Want to get better in a terrain park?  This is your chance!  You can get lap after lap on the west rope tow, allowing you to master that latest trick you have been working on.  The Olympic Skibowl Ski & Snowboard School is open for business as well with exclusive use of the Parking Lot rope tow.  Now is the perfect time to learn on a gentle slope before the crowds arrive.  Click here for lesson package details.  The Rental Shop is open for all your rental needs, from a snowboard to a helmet to a jacket if needed.

Hungry?  The Starlight Café and Beerstube are open for business as well!  Get the best Nacho plate on the mountain, or try your favorite micro beer or custom hot drink that the Beer Stube is famous for.  After a hard day of riding rails or sliding down the tube hill, head over to the Ratskeller Bar & Pizzeria in Government Camp for the best food in town.  Watch your favorite football or basketball team on the biggest screen in town, or on any of the multiple screens around the bar.  This is the place to watch your favorite team go for glory.  Enjoy the ambiance of the wood fireplace while you wait for the best pizza in town.  Children are allowed until 9:00pm, so bring the whole family.  For a full menu, click here.

If you are having so much fun you don’t want to leave, Collins Lake Resort in the heart of Government Camp has a variety of housing options to choose from.  Pick from the Grand Lodges or the Chalets, both offer great amenities like pools, hot tubs, saunas and club houses.  Go to www.collinslakeresort.com to book your room now.

Don’t forget about the biggest party on the mountain – New Year’s Eve Extravaganza at Skibowl!  Ski or ride until 2:00am, Cosmic Tube until 1:00am, a torchlight parade down Lower Bowl and two firework displays at midnight!  Live DJ’s and beer gardens round out the fun.  Don’t be left out in the cold, make your plans now!
