Tips for First Timers
1. Rent on the mountain. Renting on the hill allows you to change boot sizes if need be and allows you to try skiing or snowboarding or both with no additional charges. Also, if you have any issues with your gear it can be addressed on-site (example: changing boot or gear sizes or binding adjustments.). Renting on the hill saves time because you don't have to make an extra stop on your way to and from the mountain. Lastly, you don't have to cram or squeeze all the gear into a vehicle to get it up here.
2. Only wear one pair of socks - preferably not cotton. Ski and boarding boots are insulated and wearing two pairs of cotton socks will cause your foot to sweat when you're moving and then freeze when you stop. We have specialized ski and snowboard socks available. You want your boots to fit snugly but comfortably- toes should touch the front of your boot but not be "squished." Be sure to stand up with your boots fully strapped or buckled and lean forward so that your shins push on the front of the boot. This will pull your heel back slightly and put you in the proper riding stance.
3. Dress in layers to accommodate a variety of weather conditions. We have rental clothing available and sell base layers in our retail shop.
4. For those of you that are thinking of going out more than two or three times and don't want to spend a lot of money on gear for growing kids, ask about our selection of used equipment at discount in the rental shop. Stop by or call (503-272-3206 x1117).
