Oregon’s Spring Break kicks off with a blast Saturday March 22nd with pond skimming, “Suds on the Slopes” beer tasting, hot dog and hot wing eating contests, the “Goggle Tan Rail Jam” and much more as the Travel Channel visits Mt. Hood Skibowl to film the 13th Annual Snow Beach Festival.
Bikinis, beach balls, pink flamingos and Hawaiian shirts will take center stage for the filming of the pilot episode of a brand new show called “Bikinis & Ski Slopes” by the Travel Channel. The new show will explore events, activities, cuisine, vibe and style of different mountain towns and ski areas. Producers will be looking for people to star in the show during sign up for the events from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The segment will air this coming winter season.
The schedule of events is as follows (all events are at Skibowl West unless otherwise noted):
- 10am – DJ Zimmie spinning tunes all day
- 11am-6pm - “Suds on the Slopes” Beer and spirits from around the NW tastings.
- 11am – Hot Dog eating contest
- 11:30am – Para gliders from the top of Skibowl
- 12pm – 13th Annual Pond Skimming contest
- 2pm – Sumo wrestling
- 3pm – Hot Wing eating contest sponsored by the Ratskeller Bar & Pizzeria
- 4pm – Goggle Tan Rail Jam
- 6pm – Dance party featuring electric dance music by DJ Zimmie
- 6pm – Saturday night lights featuring Cosmic Tubing (Skibowl East)
- 8pm – Firework display (Skibowl East)
The forecast is for beautiful sunshine for the event, the highlight of which is the legendary pond skimming contest where contestants attempt to skim 80’ across a freezing pond. Clearing the icy water is not a requirement to win, and dramatic crashes and costumes all help score points. Awards and prizes will be given out in categories of best crash, best costume and best style. KPTV Fox 12 Chief Meteorologist Mark Nelson and Boyzk from 105.9 The Brew will be judging the event.
Don't miss out on all the fun!
