Big Brothers Big Sisters
As an annual sponsor of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Sports Buddies program, Mt Hood Skibowl and Kirk Hanna enjoy making a difference in a child's life. We love to share our own love of sports with the kids and the rewarding experiences that come from watching and playing together. Mt Hood Skibowl and Kirk Hanna are a $5,000 annual sponsor of the Sports Buddies program for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Northwest.
The Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs
Kirk Hanna and Mt Hood Skibowl have invited members of the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs back to their native grounds at the resort. In doing so he has offered up the Outback Lodge to become the Wiwnu Wash Tribal Heritage Center to showcase the ancestry and history of the tribal members and their families that had spent much time traveling, playing, picking huckleberries, hunting and gathering supplies on the land that is now Mt Hood Skibowl. Displays of baskets and other items of their culture and heritage are now displayed in the lodge.
In addition, Kirk Hanna has annually offered free and discounted days for the school children of the Warm Springs to come ski and play at the summer Mt Hood Adventure Park. This program is not only a lot of fun for the children, but it is a day to learn about their ancestry in the area and the ways of the past. Plus learn about programs such as "leave no trace" and other wilderness topics including the ten essentials.
The members of the Cultural and Heritage Department for the Warm Springs and Mt Hood Skibowl annually host a pow wow and cultural celebration at Mt Hood Skibowl. At each event Kirk Hanna continues to welcome back the tribal members to their lands and honor them during the celebration.
